Advancements in portable hard drives and other USB devices have been a great benefit to faculty using technology in the classroom. However, contrary to manufacturer advertising, not all of these "plug and play" devices work easily in the classroom computers on campus. In an effort to support faculty use of technology, Classroom Support has tested the following list of devices for on-campus use. Each device has been found to operate as advertised and the user should be able to use each device without technical assistance from CTSS or other tech support personnel. If you already use such a device without problem and it is not listed here, please contact Classroom Support at 8-7412 or ctss@ilstu.edu and let us know the manufacturer and model. The longer this list becomes the easier it will be for faculty and staff to find the devices that work. Devices can be found in a number of local and online retailers. Contact Techzone for help in acquiring any of these units. For your convenience we have included links to the manufacturer's websites for more information.

Portable memory

Flash drives, portable hard drives, memory sticks are names used for small devices used to transport files from one computer to another. The devices are often small enough to fit in a pocket or hung on a keychain. Devices in this category that have been tested by CTSS include:

Wireless Mouse

A wireless mouse will allow you to run your computer from virtually anywhere in a room. These devices allow you to control a powerpoint presentation or any other function on the computer without having to stand at the computer.

Devices requiring tech support

The following list of devices have been tested by CTSS and found to require technical assistance when using them in campus classrooms.
