Spring 2007

Students: 7,000ish

Fall 2006

Running Totals:

Courses: 13 (with multiple sections in some...for example bio101 has 50 sections)
Students: all incoming freshman (3,000) plus ...

Breakdown by area:

ACC 270:

Doug Love: I have 90 students in a section of ACC270 (Information Systems in
Organizations) where they are being used. They are being used by faculty in some of the other sections of this course.

Bio 101:

My name is Tak Cheung, and I am the instructor for BSC 101, Fundamental Concepts in Biology. Our annual enrollment is 2,500 students. I have required students to purchase a clicker this semester for the course. I am very glad to learn that students in Com 110 are required to have the clickers. This makes the cost less a factor for the students, when they can use it over several different courses, and perhaps through most of their undergraduate careers.

COM 110:

My name is John Hooker and I'm one of the co-directors of the Communication and Critical Inquiry (Com 110) course this semester. Every incoming freshman takes our course either in the fall or spring of their first year, and we are requiring all students to purchase clickers, which means that half of the incoming freshmen will have to purchase them for us this semester, and half will have to purchase them for us next semester. I don't have any statistics for upper-level courses in our department, but we are using clickers heavily in our core class. I hope this helps.

History:

Stewart Winger: My G.A. is determined to make it work. If she succeeds, and passes the technique on to her successors, then you will have ~90 students per semester in His 135 using it.

HSC:

George Burns: This is the second year that my colleague Guang Jin and I have used clickers in our introductory environmental health class HSC 156, and we have two sections of 165 and 85 students. We used the eInstruction system last year so we have a slight learning curve ahead of us.

KNR:

Amy Hurd: 1 course - KNR 171, 35 students per semester. We will be using them in the same course next semester & then expanding to KNR 370 in the fall (50 people).

Kevin Laudner: I have one class this semester (KNR 334, 21 students) and two classes in the spring (KNR 334, 20 students; KNR 345, 15 students) using the clickers.

Physics:

David Marx: Although I am not using clickers this year (because I'm not teaching PHY 102 this year), 4 of my physics colleagues are using them with a total around 400 students this semester and perhaps the same number next semester.

Theatre:

Ann Huago: I teach THE 152 both this semester and next. I'm not using them this semester, but I'll adopt next semester if the Mac system is up and running. Enrollment will be about 300 next semester.
